Jacqueline Duncan spent this morning at the Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair in Battersea Park and was interested to see that decoration appears to have overtaken the public interest in antiques. There were several high quality pieces from the early 20th century, notably a small and charming cocktail cabinet, and an outstanding credenza by Robert Heritage circa 1960, both of which I could have taken home with pleasure.
Several stylish French firms were showing and if I was to comment on the overall fashion, I would say that it was dominated by the best of French Provincial taste.
Odyssey were showing their engravings and very original framing skills, and Sandy Stanley, expert on Grima, had an impressive collection of 20th century Jewellery including both Grima and John Donald.
These occasions are hard work but worth the effort – I always learn something.
