Inchbald School of Design is launching our new online short courses in interior decoration and garden design in Spring 2012.

The first course, Design your own Garden, starts at the end of April 2012. Design your Living Space starts in September.

Dynamic and inspirational, these three-month part-time courses will guide you through the design process so that you can create your own garden or living space. With ongoing support and advice from a practising professional and backed by the expertly produced course materials, you will develop your design ideas to produce a scheme that meets your needs on a functional and aesthetic level.

How our online short courses work

Each course is made up of an online induction and 12 sessions. The sessions are highly practical with well-illustrated explanatory text, examples or short case studies, videos and practical activities for you to do.

You study one session a week. This helps you to maintain momentum, allows you to receive ongoing support from your tutor and to share ideas and thoughts with fellow students.

Using the bespoke course website you can work through each session online (or offline if you wish), post work on forums so your tutor can see what you’re doing and give you feedback, and take part in online discussion forums. The course website is your virtual classroom, which you can access whenever you wish.

To complete the course successfully you will be required to complete your assigned coursework successfully – most of which is concerned with the development of your own design.

How much time will it take?

The course takes about four hours a week, but don’t be surprised if you become so engrossed in design that you end up spending more time than this.

What will you achieve?

The course introduces you to the principles and practice of design so that you can successfully create your own space. It will help you develop your knowledge and confidence, inspiring you to pursue further study with Inchbald or to use what you’ve learned in your working life. On successful completion you will be awarded an Inchbald Certificate.
