This course is an introduction to the mechanics of design drawing and is relevant to those who have no previous experience of either formal or informal drawing. It is an excellent preparation for those embarking on the year courses at the Inchbald, or any similar courses, but can also benefit those who wish to refresh skills and working designers who need to develop their drawing ability.
Students will be introduced to formal orthographic drawing procedures, the architectural conventions of plans, section and elevation drawings produced at the drawing board. As a complement to this formal draughtsmanship students will explore three dimensional drawing and sketching, indoor and outdoor, with the introduction of shadow, texture and simple rendering techniques. Workshops expose students to combining elevations, sections and axonometrics. Simple graphics and presentation techniques are also covered completing the picture of communication skills required to work as a designer.
