This three session course explores the essential elements for creating a modern garden. The course starts by ascertaining the key elements which make up such a garden and how these relate to design principles.
OBJECTIVES
To equip the student with the basic skills, knowledge and understanding in order to appreciate modern garden design.
To develop through discussion and visual exploration a sense of spatial awareness and to understand how designers use this to produce a modern garden.
To inspire an awareness of modern garden design and use some of these tools in their own space.
COURSE CONTENT
First Saturday
A comprehensive lecture detailing the development of the modern garden in the United Kingdom, its essential components and its many influences from other design fields.
Second Saturday
A study tour of some of the great modern gardens, parks and spaces in London. The visit is a great opportunity to see knowledge gained from the previous week's lecture in real life. Students will meet at an agreed location.
Third Saturday
An inspiring look at modern gardens from around the world, their designers and inspirations.
