This three session course explores the essential elements for creating the English garden. The course starts by ascertaining the key elements which make up such a garden and how these relate to design principles.
OBJECTIVES
To equip the student with the basic skills, knowledge and understanding in order to appreciate traditional English design.
To develop through discussion and visual exploration a sense of spatial awareness and to understand how designers use this to produce such a garden.
To inspire an awareness of traditional English design and use some of these tools in their own space.
COURSE CONTENT
First Saturday
A comprehensive lecture detailing the development of the English garden, its essential components and its many historical influences.
Second Saturday
A study tour of two of the great English gardens, parks in London. The visit is a great opportunity to see knowledge gained from the previous week's lecture in real life. Students will meet at an agreed location.
Third Saturday
An inspiring look at how English gardens have influenced garden design around the world.
