Overview

The Inchbald Diploma Garden Design provides you with a solid foundation from which you may embark on a fulfilling and successful career.

Whichever mode of study you choose, you will acquire a rounded skills set. Teaching is delivered by professional designers who develop your understanding of design as it relates to the garden, enabling you to acquire spatial awareness and develop up-to-the-minute visualisation skills, both manual and computer aided design (CAD) based. You will develop a comprehensive portfolio of designs of varying complexity during the course.

Course content

The course is made up of six modules: Design, Design Analysis, Graphics, Planting Design, Construction, and Business.

The design module will enable you to apply theory to live projects, while in design analysis you will explore the current and proposed use of a site along with the wider context, surroundings and demographic criteria. Graphics provides an intensive introduction to the principles of drawing, which are then developed across a range of design exercises, introducing various techniques and software packages. A research project directs you to explore the plant kingdom in microcosm, teaching the design application of plants as three-dimensional masses. Construction facilitates exploration of the artistic, decorative, technical and practical aspects of hard landscaping. Detailed lectures will develop your problem-solving skills whilst the final Business module will prepare you for working as a professional garden designer.

Who is it aimed at?
